Before searching Standards Online
About Standards Online
The Department provides access to Australian and international Standards on the SAI Global Standards Online platform.
The SAI Global Standards Online platform provides:
- Online storage and access to 170+ subscription-active Standards for the Department of Health
- A searchable library of 1.6M+ national and international Standards from 360+ publishers
Before searching Standards Online
Before searching for Standards on the SAI Global platform the following is required:
- A Department of Health computer. Access is onsite only
- Installation of FileOpen plugin software
Installing FileOpen plugin on Department computer
- Click Start icon in bottom left corner of your computer desktop to open menu
- Click on Software Center under Systems Utilities tab
- Search "sai global" to locate the SAI Global FileOpen application
- Click on the SAI Global FileOpen application and complete installation
Before viewing Standards
To view, download or purchase a Standard, individual user registration and sign-in is required.
The first time you attempt to open or download an Australian or international Standard you will be prompted to create an individual user registration.
Subsequent requests for downloads will require signing into your individual account.
How to search Standards Online
SAI Global Standards Online is located in EPOCH's A-Z directory of guidelines and standards.
There are three main options to search for Department-subscribed (unlocked) and/or non-subscribed (locked) Standards.
Option 1 Search Standards
The default search option that allows searching by keyword, title or document number and the ability to filter by "subscription only", publication date or status.
Option 2 My Subscribed Documents
A browsable list of unlocked Standards licensed to the Department of Health.
Click Tools on top menu and select My Subscribed Documents.
Option 3 Subject - ICS Search
A browsable list of Australian and international Standards organised by subject category.
Click Tools on top menu and select Subject - ICS Search.
How to purchase Standards
Standards with an active subscription in the Department have a Download button.
Standards that are not licensed to the Department have a Request Unlock button.
Department staff who want to access a Standard not licensed to the Department of Health need to purchase the Standard to "unlock" the document.
To unlock a Standard requires:
- Individual user registration and/or login
- Your business unit/area cost centre code for invoicing
- Processing by Library Services, the Standards administrator
Unlocking a Standard
- Click Request Unlock adjacent to the required Standard to generate an online form and purchase price
- Note the cost for the Standard and fill in the compulsory fields in Your Details
- Click Submit Form
An email is sent to Library Services with your request. Library Services will contact you via email within one business day to obtain your cost code and arrange order processing and delivery.
Once a Standard is unlocked it is available for perpetual access as a Department of Health subscription via the SAI Global Standards Online platform.
